L Link Before Launch Real-owner Tesla referral guide
New Tesla program · Verified October 31, 2026

Already drive a Tesla? Try FSD (Supervised) free for a month.

Tesla launched an FSD referral program on October 29, 2026. If you own or lease an eligible Tesla and have not had FSD in the past year, a referral link can unlock a one-month trial. Here is exactly who qualifies, how it works, and what I receive if you decide to subscribe.

Important change for new buyers (October 31, 2026): my Tesla referral page no longer shows any benefit for new vehicle orders. It now shows only $400 off Solar Panels & Powerwall. The FSD referral on this page is for people who already have a Tesla. Earlier pages on this site that mention three months of FSD with a vehicle order describe what Tesla showed at that time.

The short version

What you may getA one-month FSD (Supervised) trial on one eligible vehicle.

Program startTerms effective October 29, 2026. Tesla says the program will not remain open indefinitely.
What I receiveNothing for your trial alone. If you buy at least one month of FSD during your trial, Tesla may give me one free month of FSD.

Do you qualify?

This is my plain-English reading of Tesla's FSD (Supervised) Referral Program terms and support page. Tesla's app makes the final call.

Likely eligible if you

  • Are 18 or older
  • Own or lease a registered Tesla with FSD-compatible hardware and firmware
  • Do not currently subscribe to or own FSD on that vehicle
  • Have not used any FSD trial in the past 12 months
  • Have not paid for an FSD subscription in the past 12 months
  • Have a Tesla account registered in a market where Tesla offers the program (reported as the U.S. at launch)

Not eligible if you

  • Received an FSD trial at or around delivery of a new Tesla in the past 12 months
  • Are a Tesla for Business customer or a current Tesla employee
  • Received a complimentary one-year FSD grant from Tesla
  • Are still waiting on your first Tesla (there is no vehicle to put the trial on)

If you have more than one eligible vehicle, Tesla may ask you to choose which one receives the trial.

How to redeem the free month

  1. Update your Tesla appThe FSD referral requires app version 4.62.0 or later.
  2. Open the link on your phoneTap my FSD referral link, or scan the QR code above from a computer. In a web browser the link only shows a "Download Tesla App" page; that is expected.
  3. If it does not open in the appTouch and hold the link and choose "Open in Tesla." If that option is missing, update or reinstall the app, sign in to the account that holds your vehicle, and try again.
  4. Accept and choose your vehicleTesla checks eligibility. If you qualify, you may receive one month of FSD (Supervised) on the vehicle you select.
  5. Note your trial end dateCheck the app for when the trial ends and how any subscription would be billed. Do not assume a trial ends or renews the same way every time.

Full transparency: what I receive

I am sharing this link because I currently subscribe to FSD (Supervised), which is what Tesla requires to generate one. Here is the entire arrangement:

  • If you only take the free month, I receive nothing.
  • If you purchase at least one month of FSD during your trial, Tesla may give me one free month of FSD (Supervised). Owners who bought FSD outright receive a $99 Tesla Credit instead; that is not my situation.
  • Tesla may show me your name and referral details in my Tesla app so referrals can be tracked. I will not contact you because of it.
  • I offer nothing extra for using my link. Tesla's terms prohibit paying or offering incentives for referral links, and this site does not run paid ads for it.

Tesla caps every referrer at 12 redeemed FSD trials per calendar year, first come, first served, whether or not anyone subscribes. If my link has reached that limit, it may not grant a trial until the limit resets. If that happens, any other eligible owner's link works the same way; there is no advantage to using mine.

How to decide if FSD is worth paying for

A month is enough time to use FSD on your own commute, errands and highway drives instead of judging it from one demonstration. I wrote a separate, safety-first FSD trial evaluation checklist for exactly this. Use it on ordinary drives, keep notes when parked, and separate "I like it" from "I would pay for it."

For a dated, version-by-version view of how FSD has behaved on our roads, including what improved and where I still intervene, read my FSD version history. Our most recent review covers FSD 14.3.13.

Supervised means supervised. FSD (Supervised) requires an attentive driver with eyes on the road and does not make the vehicle autonomous. You remain responsible for the vehicle, including speed and traffic laws, at all times.

Common questions

Can I use the FSD referral when buying a new Tesla?

No. It requires a registered Tesla you already own or lease. As of October 31, 2026, Tesla's Refer and Earn terms list no vehicle as a qualifying purchase for buyer benefits, and a new-owner FSD trial at delivery makes you ineligible for a referral trial for 12 months after that trial ends.

I had a free FSD trial earlier this year. Can I still use this?

Only if that trial was more than 12 months ago. Tesla excludes anyone who redeemed any FSD trial, including a delivery trial or promotion, in the past 12 months.

I cancelled my FSD subscription a few months ago. Do I qualify?

Not yet. Tesla excludes anyone who subscribed to FSD in the past 12 months.

Does the trial turn into a paid subscription automatically?

Tesla's referral terms do not say the trial converts on its own. Check the trial details and end date in your Tesla app, and only subscribe if you decide FSD is worth it to you.

Why does the link show a "Download Tesla App" page?

FSD referral links work only inside the Tesla app. Open the link on your phone, or touch and hold it and choose "Open in Tesla."

Is this an official Tesla page?

No. Link Before Launch is my independent owner guide. Tesla's app and published terms always take precedence over anything written here.
